Since launching over four years ago, the world - and our work - has shifted. What’s needed from organisations like ours has changed too. And with that, so has our purpose.
Our original mission - “designing, building and scaling digital products and services to include the excluded” no longer reflected the breadth or depth of our work.
So, we’ve refined our positioning, rearticulated our offer, and rebuilt our website - to reflect the work we’re doing now, the new climate we operate in, and the future we’re committed to shaping.
Why we evolved
When we started Here I Am, most of our work was about designing and building digital products from scratch.
Today, our approach is broader and deeper. We use digital technologies across the full lifecycle - from research and co-design, to delivery and scale.
Inclusion is no longer just our outcome - it’s our method.
We’re no longer in a climate where building shiny, bespoke tools in isolation is always the answer. The future lies in something bigger than individual products:
- Using digital to enable more efficient, community-led collaboration
- Strengthening and scaling the systems and services that already exist
- Designing for sustainability, shared usage, and long-term impact
That’s the lens we’ve applied to our own evolution.
So, what do we do now?
We are the digital inclusion specialists.
We integrate digital technologies into everything we do - from research and training, to service design and development - unlocking limitless possibilities for faster, more efficient inclusion.
More to the point, we:
- Conduct ethical, community-led research through Fatima, our digital research platform - to ensure the right voices shape the right solutions
- Design and build inclusive, adaptable digital services that work within real-world systems, not outside them
- Train and support teams to use digital tools to reach, understand, and support excluded people - accelerating the localisation of digital inclusion
- Partner long-term, to shape and deliver digital strategies and roadmaps that embed all of the above, sustainably and at scale
This evolution isn’t cosmetic. It’s strategic and necessary - a clearer articulation of who we are, and how we work.
What’s changed - and what hasn’t
Our positioning is sharper, our voice more confident, and our visual identity has grown up. Our new website finally reflects the full scope of what we do. But at our core, nothing’s changed. Our values and mission remain the same - driven by the belief that a more inclusive world is something we can design, together.
And we’re still proud to be called Here I Am - a name inspired by suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst’s 1913 Freedom or Death speech.
Her words, “So here am I,” were a declaration of voice, protest and progress.
It was our rallying cry then, and it still is now.
